The「National Health Insurance」is a compulsory social insurance program, and following the law, every Taiwanese citizen with official residency in Taiwan, or foreign nationals with Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) must participate in this program,regardless of age, gender, and employment status. Also, this insurance program should last for entire lifetime, and no one can arbitrarily withdraw, except for those who lose their insurance eligibility (such as people who are reported missing, given up their Taiwanese citizenship, moved abroad or residency period already expired).

Individuals who participated in the National Health Insurance (NHI) program must actively apply for a「Health Insurance Card」, and this card will be the proof of your identity when taking medical checkups or treatments, so need present it every time and please keep it safe.
